Georgia Pacific Honored as PATH Manufacturer Partner of the Year

Orlando-U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing (PATH) understands the value of its partners. So when a partner goes above and beyond, PATH takes notice.

Georgia-Pacific Corporation (GP) was recognized as the PATH Manufacturer Partner of the Year during the annual "Breakfast of Innovators" held at the NextGen Demonstration Home at the International Builders' Show.

Leo Bissonnette, Georgia-Pacific's general manager of DensGuard Products, accepts the PATH Manufacturer of the Year award at PATH Breakfast of Innovators."What makes Georgia-Pacific a model PATH Partner is the company's commitment to looking beyond product sales to providing customers with sound building science solutions," said Assistant Secretary Darlene F. Williams of HUD's Office of Policy Development and Research.

While taking full advantage of PATH Marketing Resources, GP demonstrated this commitment in several ways in 2006:

Among its many products, GP manufactures mold resistant gypsum, one of PATH's 2007 Top 10 technologies. Georgia-Pacific's DensArmor® Plus product resists water absorption by replacing the paper facing with glass mat facing.

As an active participant in HUD's hurricane recovery workshops in the Gulf region in 2006, GP provided sheathing demonstrations to help hundreds properly repair damaged homes in the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Company representatives reprinted and distributed the PATH's Green Kitchen Tech Set for the benefit of their customers. The Tech Set is a bundling of products PATH recommends for creating an energy- and resource-efficient kitchen. While mold-resistant gypsum was only one of many elements, Georgia Pacific saw the larger value of the Tech Set to its customers.

Through these activities, GP has employed a strategy that not only boosts its market advantage, but also elevates its customer service by demonstrating commitment to quality building practices.

"Georgia-Pacific is honored to be selected as PATH's Manufacturer Partner of the Year," said Leo Bissonnette, GP's general manager of DensGuard Products. "Georgia-Pacific, like PATH, is dedicated to accelerating the development of technologies, such as our paperless mold resistant wallboard, that helps to improve-in PATH's words-the environmental performance and the durability of America's housing."
