PATH Awards $60,000 in Research Grants

Cooperative project between PCA and the NAHB Research Center will seek to better utilize innovative technologies.

PATH has awarded the Portland Cement Association (PCA) and the NAHB Research Center $60,000 in funds for a cooperative research project to develop cost-effective guidelines for connecting concrete walls to structural insulated panel roof systems.

"Prescriptive Methods for Connecting Structural Insulated Panels to Concrete Roof Systems" will identify methods to reduce the design costs and improve building quality in projects using both concrete walls and structural insulated panel roof systems. Although both systems are currently used in residential building projects, methods commonly employed to use them in conjunction with one another are often inefficient.

The NAHB Research Center will assemble an advisory committee to oversee the research, testing, and review of the project's findings. Results of the research will be available to residential builders and contractors in order to further accelerate the adoption of these housing technologies.
