PATH Develops Plans for "Whole House Calculator"
PATH recently released two reports, including a plan to develop a "whole house calculator" that will allow builders and consumers to assess choices for processes, materials, components and systems of constructing a home. The second report outlines research for developing residential roof systems that serve multiple functions and improve performance over current systems.

PATH Develops Practical Tools to Advance Energy-Efficient Remodeling
PATH is partnering with the remodeling industry to initiate a multi-year project aimed at developing voluntary guidelines, or protocols, for energy-efficient remodeling. PATH is also supporting a project, in partnership with EPA and DOE, to develop an industry-recognized contractor certification or credentialing program for energy efficiency.

In collaboration with PATH, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the University of Florida and the Florida Energy Extension Service, Mercedes has built prototypes incorporating technologies and practices that can make houses safer in Florida and other hurricane-prone regions.

Eaton Row to Open for New Homeowners
PATH will celebrate the grand opening of the Eaton Row residential development at 11:30 a.m., Friday, May 6 on the new Frances Hunter Drive. Sitting on a five-acre site in the city's Dixwell neighborhood, the project provides 30 new single-family, three- and four-bedroom residences with half of the homes to be affordable for lower income families.

Sustainable Apartments Celebrated in San Francisco
Citizens Housing Corporation hosted a grand opening celebration on April 20 to mark the completion of the Folsom/Dore Apartments project. PATH provided technical assistance and recommendations, including energy-efficient and low-impact development practices, to develop 98 units of quality, affordable housing for low- and very low-income residents with a variety of special needs, including the chronically homeless.

Builders' Guide to Process Improvements Coming in Spring 2006
While other manufacturing industries have been quick to develop and adopt new technologies that improve productivity and lower costs, the home building industry has not kept pace. To help builders reap the benefits of process improvement, a group of home builders, housing researchers, and the federal government have joined forces to transfer lessons from other industries to small and medium-sized home builders.
