PATH's David Engel Inducted into Remodelors' Hall of Fame
HUD veteran recognized for advancing technology in industry
CHICAGO, IL-The Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing (PATH) is pleased to announce David Engel was inducted into the America's Best Remodeling Hall of Fame Friday at the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Remodelors Council Gala. The Hall of Fame was established to honor individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to the remodeling industry.
[IMAGE: Dave Engel accepts Hall of Fame award from sponsor, Jeff Williams of Weathershield.]As the director of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Division of Affordable Housing Research and Technology for more than 20 years, Engel has been a pioneer in introducing technology into the remodeling industry. The PATH program was the result of Engel's efforts to develop a public-private initiative with construction industry partners for the purpose of providing better products and processes for America's builders, remodelors and homeowners.
Funded by HUD, PATH works to accomplish consensus industry priorities established by builders, remodelors, and others in the industry, including members of PATH's Industry Committee.
"David has helped shape the PATH initiative to a fully collaborative partnership where the construction professionals help to shape the direction and priorities," HUD Assistant Secretary for Housing and the Federal Housing Commissioner John C. Weicher said. "As a result, PATH has demonstrated technologies available to remodelors, proving that technologies can be integrated into a home during remodeling, as well as in new construction."
Engel continues his work through the management of the PATH, which is developing and applying technologies to increase disaster resistance, environmental quality, energy efficiency, and housing durability while also expanding housing affordability.
"This leadership and vision is helping to launch the new products and technologies that will benefit remodeled and new houses for many, many years," Roger Glunt, president of Glunt Development Co., Inc., said.
To achieve these goals, Engel provides remodelors with ways to educate themselves on how they can use technologies through innovation such as PATH's Roadmaps and Concept Home and by advancing numerous studies and guides designed for remodelors. Available on the PATHnet and HUDUser Web sites, some of those publications are: Barriers to Rehabilitation of Affordable Housing: Volume 1 Findings and Analysis and Volume 2 Case Studies; Energy Efficiency in Existing Homes Roadmap; Nationally Applicable Recommended Rehabilitation Provisions; Rehab Guides: Volumes 1-9; Residential Remodeling and Universal Design; and Smart Codes in Your Community: A Guide to Building Rehabilitation Codes.
