HUD Officials Laud Florida Homes with PATH Technologies
One week before Hurricane Charley, three homeless families moved into new homes in Port Charlotte, Florida. Thanks to PATH technologies, those three homes suffered only minor roof damage while other homes in the neighborhood were seriously damaged.

At a press conference on September 23, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Assistant Secretaries Dennis Shea and John C. Weicher joined representatives from the National Association of Home Builders and the Manufactured Housing Institute to discuss the homes, and how new building codes and advanced building technologies can create safer and more durable housing.

"Today we see the proof that HUD's new construction standards for manufactured housing are creating better and safer homes," Shea said. "Working closely with our industry partners, we can say that properly installed manufactured housing is as safe and storm resistant as any other new home."

PATH to Sponsor Townhouse in Show Village at IBS 2005
PATH is pleased to announce that it will partner with Reed Communications in building a townhouse in the Show Village at the 2005 International Builders' Show in Orlando next January. The two-unit townhouse, to be located in the convention center parking lot, will be toured by thousands of visiting building industry professionals. PATH will serve as the technical advisor on construction of the home, which will feature a wide range of PATH-profiled technologies. One unit will be complete; the second unit will be under construction to reveal the home's advanced technologies.

New PATH Demo Showcases Technology, Accessibility, and Infill
Paterson, New Jersey is the site for the new Better Home, Better Planet Showhouse: a single-family home that will be fully accessible for a child with physical disabilities. PATH is partnering with the BASF Corporation to build the Showhouse, which will demonstrate many PATH technologies and will be a pilot house for a new LEED Certification program for residential buildings. Construction is slated to begin this fall and finish in spring 2005. The home will also be open to the public for tours before the family moves in.

PATH Charts Course for High Impact Outreach
How does a comprehensive R&D partnership program like PATH effectively disseminate its findings to its various audiences -- and accurately measure its impact? That's the focus of a new PATH initiative designed to take the program to a new level of prominence in the industry.

With the National Research Council's program assessment as its impetus, PATH is conducting a self-study that will involve interviews and exploratory discussions with industry and government officials knowledgeable about effective dissemination of technology information to multiple audiences. The resulting plan will undergo testing and further refinement before it is implemented to guide PATH's dissemination activities and outcomes assessment.

"PATH has made important strides over the last year in sharing its technology resources with a wider audience of industry professionals," notes Carlos Martín of HUD. "But there's much left to do to make the program the powerful vehicle for industry advancement that it can be."

The dissemination plan is expected to begin driving program outreach priorities in early 2005. Industry professionals interested in contributing one half-hour to an hour of time to assist with this effort should contact PATH.
