Nevada-based Charity Reaps the Benefits of PATH Profiled Technologies in the 2004 NextGen Demonstration Home
LAS VEGAS-The Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing (PATH) is proud to announce that the 2004 NextGen Demonstration Home has been donated to Opportunity Village, a not-for-profit organization serving people with mental disabilities. At the conclusion of the International Builders' Show, the keys to NextGen--a showcase for the evolution of building science, safety and technology--were handed over to the Nevada-based charity. Opportunity Village will sell the home and use the proceeds to fund numerous programs.
"Unsolicited gifts like this are few and far between," Linda Smith, development officer of Opportunity Village, told a local Nevada newspaper. "We are honored to receive such a generous donation and look forward to being able to use the money to continue our work throughout the Las Vegas community."
Over two-dozen PATH-profiled technologies including all amenities and upgrades displayed in the house as well as a $90,000 home theatre system provided by Cinema Design Group were all a part of the donation to Opportunity Village. Some of PATH-profiled technologies included ENERGY STAR® qualified appliances and lighting, tankless water heaters, sprayed foam insulation, and solar panels. NextGen also demonstrates good water conservation and other aspects of environmental performance; such as protecting indoor air quality and using recycled materials.
Celebrating its 50th anniversary and the fact that they were selected out of dozens of local charities as the recipient of NextGen, Opportunity Village's search for a buyer is underway. One of the major benefits to this donation is that NextGen was constructed using modular building or "stick building in a factory." This 2,300 square-foot home was built in a factory and assembled on site at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The home is virtually indistinguishable from a site-built home. Therefore, NextGen can be moved to any location.
Opportunity Village hopes that someone will donate a piece of residential land with a cement slab already in place so that the house can be moved and sold on the lot; or that someone will buy the home outright.
Technologies profiled by PATH are selected for their strengths in one or more of the following areas: quality and durability; energy efficiency; environmental performance; safety and disaster mitigation; and affordability.
