PATH Partners Break Ground in San Francisco Using Low Impact Development
PATH is proud to announce the recent groundbreaking celebration for Citizens Housing Corporation's (CHC) Folsom/Dore Apartments. Located in the heart of the South of Market (SOMA) District of San Francisco, the 98-unit supportive housing development marks a breakthrough in providing low-income families with affordable housing using low impact development and advanced housing technologies.
PATH made technical recommendations to CHC's project manager and architects, which included the use of Low Impact Development (LID) practices to protect the environment. These recommendations also included the following innovations from PATH's Technology Inventory:

LID practices provide ways to incorporate economic and environmental considerations into the land development process. It uses various technology, land, planning, and design practices to conserve and protect natural resources. LID practices also reduce infrastructure cost.
The project implemented a number of PATH recommended technologies including recycled construction materials; ENERGY STAR® labeled appliances; and a high efficiency HVAC system.
The units are a mix of studios, one and two-bedrooms ranging in size from approximately 500 to 800 square feet. The development is four levels of frame construction over a Type I concrete structure. It also includes 30 parking spaces in a single-level, partially submerged garage and approximately 3,200 square feet of flexible community space that will house on-site programs and services along the Folsom Street frontage. There is also approximately 3,500 square feet of open space, which includes a front entry courtyard, as well as a ground level courtyard in the rear of the development.
* The completion of the project is scheduled for January 2005.
