Why a Concept Home?
[IMAGE: Miniature house model resting on blueprints]Everyone Needs a Role Model...
Homeowners want it all--a home that enhances their lifestyle, even as lifestyles change over time. They want to be able to easily repair and remodel, and incorporate the latest technologies without tearing the house apart. They want to feel safe, secure and comfortable. And they want a home to be affordable, yet feel custom built.
Meanwhile, builders want to build the high quality, affordable, flexible and energy-efficient homes that customers desire. They also want ideas and strategies to build homes more efficiently.
The PATH Concept Home has six principles that guide the design and product selection to make this kind of home a reality.
How did it come about? The Concept Home is an outgrowth of PATH's Technology Roadmap: Whole House and Building Process Redesign, and Technology Scanning report. These studies found that modern homes are currently built to be inflexible, with systems tangled behind interior walls and embedded in structural elements. The Concept Home represents a vision for the future of housing, with an emphasis on flexibility of systems to meet the specific needs of the homeowner. Innovations in the Concept Home include flexible interior walls that can accommodate family changes, customizable designs that will give the home the quality and curb appeal of a custom-built house without the high cost, and improved production methods that speed construction and improve durability.
