June 27, 2005 PATH Celebrates Liberty Village Groundbreaking The Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing (PATH) is pleased to celebrate the groundbreaking of Liberty Village Housing Development at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 28 at 24th and Vine streets in Lincoln, Nebraska. Speakers at the groundbreaking include representatives for Senators Chuck Hagel and Ben Nelson and Congressman Jeff Fortenberry, as well as Governor Dave Heineman, Lincoln Mayor Coleen Seng, and HUD Regional Director Macie Houston.
Furthermore, Liberty Village will feature multicultural sensitive architecture to respond to Nebraska's changing demographics. Builder Brighton Construction has researched Lincoln's distinct populations to determine how a home can be designed to better fit their lifestyles and cultural preferences. For example, Vietnamese homeowners prefer a kitchenette in the garage or back porch to accommodate summer cooking, while Arab occupants want a separate room for the toilet. The 20-unit project, which includes 16 detached single houses, is scheduled to be completed by fall 2005. Homes will be priced from $120,000 and $135,000. Along with PATH, project partners include the City of Lincoln, Fannie Mae, Nebraska Investment Finance Authority, Neighborhoods, Inc., ENERGY STAR, RM101 Architecture, HOME Real Estate, and environment building supply company Straw, Sticks and Bricks.
