PATH - A Public Private Partnership for Advancing Housing Technology

Yonkers, New York

Demonstration Site: Habitat for Humanity of Westchester

Final Case Study Report [.pdf, 675 KB] August 2005

Development of six homes (three duplexes built in two phases) on a site just across the street from a PATH house built just a few years ago (and televised on CBS's Morning News and Bob Vila's Home Again) presented an opportunity for PATH to build upon earlier successes in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity of Westchester (HfHW). The City of Yonkers, New York donated the land on Porach Street upon which the units were built.

Technologies

A wide range of PATH-evaluated technologies and delivery methodologies were explored for use, including, but not limited to: insulated form systems; SIPs; high-performance windows; drywall clips and stops; and pre-finished drywall corners. All technologies were optimum value engineered through a systems approach.

Other important technologies from the PATH Inventory considered include: integrated/hybrid building systems; fungus, mold, and stain resistance strategies; reduction of barriers to innovation by working with building officials, subcontractors/labor force, and owners/tenants; improved weather protection system strategies from flashing, roofing, siding and coatings; durability/maintenance issues for renters and first time home buyers; and alternate contracting and construction methods. The technologies that were most likely to be used were those for which additional data is required on performance, cost, market acceptance, and installation.
