The Millennium House: A Strong, Affordable Home for the 21st Century
Retired engineer Don McCarthy has built a 1,200-square-foot home in Tulsa, Oklahoma, that is not only durable enough to withstand tornadoes, efficient enough to exceed ENERGY STAR® specifications, and healthy enough to earn the American Lung Association's designation of a "Healthy House," it was also designed as a model of a low-income home. Built with assistance from volunteers and non-profit organizations, the Millennium House will undergo tests by researchers at the University of Tulsa and the American Lung Association before going on the market, perhaps next year.
Zero Energy Remodel in New Jersey
PATH Partner Asdal Builders of Chester, New Jersey, is working on the first zero-energy home remodel: an energy-efficient restoration of two 19th-century Victorian homes, a garage, and a barn.
