Shea Homes recently released their High Performace Home, which is built to the standards of a ComfortWiseTM home--using 30% less energy for space heating and cooling than a home built to national energy standards. Energy saving measures incorporated into the homes include reduced air infiltration, spectrally selective windows,
radiant barrier sheathing,
solar water heating and
photovoltaic solar panels.
The San Diego division of Shea Homes began implementing
Total Quality Management practices in 1991, which resulted in an 80 percent reduction of defects, an increase in worker safety and numerous quality awards. Shea Homes is in the implementation phase for
ISO 9000 certification.
