June 11, 2004 PATH Announces Concept Home at AIA Expo2004 The Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing (PATH) hosted a press conference on June 10, 2004, at the AIA Expo2004 to announce the development of the first PATH Concept Home. Dana Bres of HUD's Office of Policy Development and Research addressed journalists at the McCormick Place event in Chicago. He outlined the key features of the PATH Concept Home and explained how fundamental changes in the homebuilding industry can produce dramatic savings in cost, time, material and labor.
An architectural model of the home, made possible with generous support from Dupont and the Portland Cement Association, will be unveiled in late June in Washington, D.C., and displayed at various venues throughout the year. The Concept Home, an outgrowth of PATH's Technology Roadmap: Whole House and Building Process Redesign, and Technology Scanning Report, will offer a new, dynamic vision of homebuilding: By 2010, home design and construction will be efficient, predictable, and controllable with a median cycle time of 20 working days from groundbreaking to occupancy. Efficient production methods will result in cost savings that make homeownership available to 90 percent of the population.
