National Pilot: Village Green
Village Green is a 186-unit subdivision in the San Fernando Valley developed in a cooperative effort between private industry and the federal government to develop a new generation of affordable, energy efficient housing. Among the advanced technologies being used are advanced framing systems, solar control glazing for windows, photovoltaic solar panel arrays, innovative space heating systems, gas air conditioning, mechanical ventilation. It is anticipated that utility bills for homeowners at Village Green will be as much as 40% percent less than for a typical new home and through a partnership with the Los Angels Department of Water & Power and BP Solar, 180 of the 186 homes will have photovoltaic systems to provide up to 90 percent of the homes’ electrical needs. Village Green homes meet the Engineered for Life standards and quality for the Energy Star program, in addition to surpassing the requirements of the Model Energy Code and saving up to 40% percent in monthly energy bills. |
