PATH Field Evaluation Site: Shea Homes, Scripps Highlands
The PATH program will provide technical support and performance information related to the energy consumption and production by renewable energy systems for Shea Homes. Shea Homes, the 10th largest homebuilder in the U.S, has introduced the "High Performance Home". This energy efficient ComfortWiseSM home is designed with radiant barrier sheathing and thermostatic expansion valves on the HVAC system to increase energy efficiency. Most of these homes will incorporate passive solar thermal water heating and about 100 homes will include solar photovoltaic roof panels.
Evaluation will be based on overall energy consumption for heating and cooling and for base loads. Differences in energy use will then be attributed to indoor temperature settings, level of appliance use, and general occupant differences
