Field Evaluation: Hundredfold Farm
Hundredfold Farm will be Pennsylvania's first cohousing development. Homes will be constructed on an 80-acre Christmas tree farm just outside of Gettysburg, Pennsyslvania. The community's focus is sustainability and incorporating environmentally friendly and energy efficient building practices and products into the development. Each resident will own a house and land on which it is built. A total of fourteen homes are planned for construction beginning in March 2002. The first phase of construction will include five solar powered homes manufactured by Avis America and two panelized homes produced by Deltec. Research Center staff is assisting the community with preliminary designs of onsite wastewater treatment systems, drip irrigation, and water conservation measures. Emphasis will be placed on solar and wastewater technologies. The Research Center plans to monitor and evaluate these homes during and after the construction process.
