Demonstration Site: Del Rio Comprehensive Housing Plan
PATH is working in the City of Del Rio, Texas to help design and build new housing. Manufactured housing is being considered for all of these homes. This is a collaboration proposed by Housing Opportunities for South Texas (HOST), DWS Construction, ESG Consultants, Inc., and the City of Del Rio. Much of the housing that is being considered is for very low income residents, many of whom were displaced by the flood of 1998 or currently live in "colonias" along the Texas/Mexico border. The colonias are communities of substandard shelters without electricity, running water, sewage, or other utilities. The developers intend to construct homes based on HUD's "Next Generation" designs. With minor changes, the homes can be built either as manufactured (HUD-Code) homes, or as modular homes meeting the CABO code. The first 199 units at Del Rio are expected to use the CABO version of the homes. PATH's work will involve changes in the "Next Generation of Manufactured Housing" (NextGen) design to adapt to a southern climate, multiple models to give neighborhoods a more diverse look, and measures to "green" the new neighborhood. |
