SUBJECT: durability oportunities

The consumer step 2 line is mostly void
of links with line 1 durability.
I reason that durability needs the most
attention, yet gets the least in
HUD/PATH/MADE funding.
The other categories in line 1 are so
old that only small increments of
inprovements are still emerging for
Energy Efficiency, Environmental,
Disaster Resistance,/Safety, and
Affordability.
The lessons learned from studying
failure modes from Hurricane Andrew
conclude that truss plate fasteners held
up far better than any other fastener.
This says that the home building
industry should revert to the Truss
Framed Construction method successfully
demonstrated 17 years ago to replace the
platform method used for 168 years, and
now obsolete.
