I advise you to get your answers from a
net search listing of award winning
projects in different parts of the
country as reported by EREN. Breakdowns
for award purposes are required. You
will find that factory made homes are in
a totally different up front cost
category from stick built homes. Even
though there is lower cost for factory
units, they will have up to 30% more
lumber and about 12% less insulation per
peripheral foot of outside wall. That
difference will lead to a 5%-27% greater
heating utility bill than stick built
homes.
The shape of the house is a function of
the amount of outside wall per square
foot of floor space. Round is optimum,
many sided polygons are next, Square is
third in line, and long and narrow is
worst. Zig Zag shapes complicate costs
even more.
