SUBJECT: RE: NAHB promotion of steel
FROM: DEAN YOUNGKEIT guruofhousing@netscape.net

The NAHB agenda for steel studs is
flawed in terms of "being friendly to
the environment" Making it rust
resistant uses toxic metals like zinc
and cadmium. Shopping malls that
constantly relocate walls for new
tennants never re-use steel studs. They
go to the land fill with the dry wall.
The coal used to make the steel is a
non-renewal resource. Trees grow, coal
does not. When they start making
stainless steel studs with solar energy,
NAHB can promote enviroment friendly,
but only for warm climates. They will
never alter the thermal conductivity
problems in cold climates.
