1. Typically the most reliable source is
the county government's permitting
records.
2. Canvassing the local neighborhood may
provide some leads. If it has a
neighborhood association, there is
usually a member that acts as a
historian keeping records of such
things.
3. You may also have some success
contacting the local home building
association chapters (some of which
distribute local newsletters, etc.).
You can find phone numbers on the NAHB
website (look on
the bar to the left under "State and
Local Associations").
4. If the home has rather unique
features, it may have been designed by a
local architect. To check into this,
ask questions of the local American
Institute of Architects chapter.
