Many studies have been done by entities
such as the National Institute of
building Sciences, Oak Ridge National
Laboratory, etc that show "controlled
vent" (conditioned) crawl spaces are
more effective in terms of energy
efficiency and moisture reduction, than
normal vented crawl spaces (so long as
vapor barriers are used). The
publication "Energy Design Update" has
run many articles on the subject, but
unforutnately that publication is quite
expensive (a couple hundred $ a year,
or so).
