About 6 years ago, I was taught by a certified ISO 9000
trainer that the system was not an international
standard, but a firm commitment by a company that the
highest available standards in any country are not only
claimed, but consistently used. Violation of more than
5 principles in a year results in removal of
certification. A violation could be as simple as
putting the cold water through the left faucet.
Certification meant consistancy towards a standard that
is not necessarily an international one.
This fits the pride that each nation has for their own
standards.
