SUBJECT: RE: SIPS + EIFS=Trouble?

I have not yet inspected a sips+EIFS house, but like stick-built frames, the potential for major structural problems are there. Once moisture gets into the assembly, the water is slow to get out, unless a drainage system is installed. The water soaks into the wood (in this case the OSB or plywood sheathing), causing the wood to rot. EIFS installed over masonry substrates or brick or stone, do not have the same problem.
