SUBJECT: RE: Creep in plastic as structural material
FROM: DEAN YOUNGKEIT guruofhousing@netscape.net

A "creep failure mechanism" exists with most materials
when the temperature is above the "glassy transition
zone" Most materials have this transition at extreme
temperatures. Some epoxies and polyesters as used in
fiberglass have that transition between 0 and 200
degrees F. Thus engineering to have adequate design
strength needs to address this issue.
Engineering that addresses this issue makes it not an
issue as to whether or not to use plastics.
