SUBJECT: RE: Framing:Optimum Value Engineering Manual?

The best manual I know of is the NAHB publication for
"Truss Framed Construction" It presents an optimization
for framing reducing wall cavity content of dimensional
lumber from over 20% to 6.25% if sheetrock attachment
blocks are also eliminated. The manual has one fault:
It does not teach how to do this. I teach that the way
to do this is to put the structural sheathing directly
under the dry wall instead of outside. All intersecting
walls can be started anywhere with a steel stud screw
attached thru sheetrock into the said sheathing. A long
list of benefits result.
I'll end this with another question: Are the Forest
Products Laboratory's "skinny studs" acceptable for
whole truss construction?
