Chris, Mr. Brown,
There is a couple of flywheel manufacturers that I have communicated with over the past few months. Sat-Con is developing a 1kW composite flywheel for the telecommunications industry. Their flywheel is designed to be a 1 for 1 swap with a battery pack. Most building codes will require these flywheels to be buried to contain a catastophic failure. Locally a company called PowerCon and I are supposed to meet today to discuss a possible use for solar-powered communities that can be prefab and shipped anywere in the world. I hate chemical batteries. Call Don Sweeney at PowerCon at 972)271-9597
Jack Bitterly, of flying Pteryldactyl and NASA fame, developed a flywheel for GM to use in a car that had electric motors as part of the wheels (4 WD). I haven't heard anything from US Flywheel since the Discover Magazine article.
