Use a stanly knife to cut to the paper about 1/2" outboard of the metal. Use the same cutter to remove lumps that interfere with a close fit of the new corner. A neater job can be done with a hand held router with a vacuum dust collecter, 1/2" to 3/4" wide flat depth cutter, and edge fence. I suggest you take several slight passes to approach, but not penetrate the sheetrock paper surface next to the metal. The second and following corners you replace will be much easier. If you are not familiar with the finishing process, get someone with experience to do this. Dean Youngkeit |
