NSF-PATH Grant
2000 Awards Announced
In May 2000, the National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded several proposals under its research on the Advanced Technologies for Housing Initiative, a grant program for fundamental engineering research to develop a new generation of housing. Although collaboration among researchers and partnerships with industry or government laboratories was encouraged, awards were limited to U.S. academic institutions. The research projects, which must advance two or more of PATH 's goals, will help PATH develop a fundamental research base for the development of new technologies, will increase the use of advanced technologies in today's new and existing homes, will strengthen the technology of the U.S. building industry, and will stimulate the development of new technologies that support the next generation of American housing.
The research initiative focused on a broad array of technologies and encouraged cooperative and interdisciplinary activities. Far-reaching, exploratory research that could lead to breakthrough technologies and engage transcendent technologies (such as sensors, advanced materials, and information technology) were particularly encouraged.
