PATH is a public-private partnership aimed at dramatically improving the cost and quality of housing through the development and application of advanced technologies in the American housing industry.

PATH's overall mission is to improve the affordability and value of America's homes through technology. Value includes improved energy-efficiency, durability, quality, and labor safety and reduced environmental impact and natural disaster damage. To achieve this mission, PATH has set up solid goals. The Industry Steering Committee, composed of building and manufacturing experts, and the Federal Agency Working Group, which includes Federal offices that have housing technology-related operations, believe that the following goals are necessary for positive change:

  1. Develop new housing technologies. PATH, along with its partners, will support and perform housing-related technological research, including technology forecasting, research and development, market introduction, and support.

  2. Disseminate information about new and existing housing technologies. PATH will coordinate the dissemination of information (on specific technologies and industry-wide technological information) that remains unbiased, technically accurate, and relevant to specific housing audiences. In doing so, PATH hopes to encourage familiarity with, availability of, and use of technologies among homebuilding and homeowner communities.

  3. Study and establish mechanisms for sustained housing technology development. PATH will investigate the institutional barriers that impede innovation and will propose alternatives and negotiate improved services to overcome those barriers. PATH also will develop networks and agreements among participants to implement these services.

PATH espouses far-reaching objectives that deal with the quality, durability, environmental impact, energy efficiency, disaster resistance, labor safety, and affordability of America's homes. Using the National Construction Goals as a basis, PATH encourages the following improvements within the homebuilding industry:

  • AFFORDABILITY
  • ENERGY EFFICIENCY and ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
  • DURABILITY
  • DISASTER RESISTANCE and SAFETY

Guided by these goals, PATH has carried out many activities that fit into broader PATH topics.
